Really odd by Jennings
It ended up being pitched closer to leg than it looked on first view but was missing anyway.
Seemed a bit non-plussed playing against S Africa.
At least he didn't join in the appeal.

Ballance doesn't appear to have changed his technique at all. Has an even more pronounced step back towards his stumps after he sets up.

Don't know why, but I fancy Balance to go big today.

Maybe even a ton.

Eerie

I can't believe that people would get picked because they are mates with the captain.

They obviously see something in him.

And.....he's out.

Eeire wins.

Ballance LBW
No surprise at all
Makes it worse by going Shane Watson with the pointless review

Re: 1st Test England v South Africa at Lords
Ballance out thanks to Grumpster kiss of death.

Another dreadful review decision.

I hope you never backed him Grumps…. Gary NON-Balanced out plumb lbw… feet static…

Vaughany says it all….

Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

His head goes nowhere, his feet go nowhere, it's almost like French cricket. The worry for many with Gary at number three is that all England's top three can be restricted by a good bowling attack.

Thing is, with someone like Bell, who had patchy form, he was so technically good that you understood the chances and time afforded to him, and he had an excellent England career.

You look at Ballance, and you see a test match number 11. He NEVER looks in, and at the very top level, where your technique is going to be testing by the best, I am absolutely baffled why they pick him.

PLAYS FOR YORKSHIRE - TICK
BEST MATES WITH EVERYONE BEHIND THE SCENES - TICK
NOT ENGLISH - TICK

Re: 1st Test England v South Africa at Lords
Ha ha, I was only joking with him doing well.

I once had a debate with Matty on here who was bigging him up and defending him.

I don't care that he does well in county cricket, it's a different world against the best test teams and he fails against them relentlessly, with his suspect technique.

Agree with Bell, in that as much as he could be frustrating, every fucker they've tried since has pretty much failed.

Batting looks vulnerable to collapse to me.

Over the last three years, in 64 innings, England have lost their third wicket at 55 or lower 23 times.

Is there any sport that lends its self better to statistical frivolity than cricket?

Cricket and football love a stat.

Baseball loves a stat, they even made a film about it

Re: 1st Test England v South Africa at Lords
England seem to be locked in this trap of appointing their current best player as captain, and it's doomed to fail. The last time we picked someone to captain based on the fact he had the fundamentals you'd want in a captain, it was Andrew Strauss, and he was superb.

Cook should never have been captain, and Root definitely should not, certainly not right now.

Identify someone who is a solid enough batsman, but most importantly has the skills to be a leader of men. And someone who will NOT pick his mates.

ED - Identify someone who is a solid enough batsman, but most importantly has the skills to be a leader of men.

That''s the problem ED, apart from Cook, Bairstow and Root, I don't see any current batsmen worth a place in the side, let alone be captain as well.

Cook caught by De Kock?

I bet that hurt?

Ali & Root taking it away
Maharaj the S African spinner 0/107 off 22
Neither as good or as white as Simon Harmer

Root is the fucking bollocks

Sven Roeder 8:12 Thu Jul 6
Re: 1st Test England v South Africa at Lords
Only managed 87 overs in 6 and a half hours
I'd require 96 overs and if you are 9 short add 45 runs to the score as SUNDRIES

You don't drop Joe ROOT or get him stumped off no-balls without causing yourself major problems.

Re: 1st Test England v South Africa at Lords
Good to see Ballance continue where he left off

Well done Root, Stokes and Mo saved us from the all so typical batting collapse
